Conformity Assessment Body. An independent organisation (such as SGS, Intertek, or CCIC) accredited to conduct testing and issue Certificates of Conformity.
CoC
Certificate of Conformity. The mandatory document required for customs clearance of Phase 1 designated goods under the PVoC Programme.

Department of Trade, Industry and Competition. The South African government department responsible for PVoC policy.
LoA
Letter of Authority. An import approval document issued by the NRCS for regulated goods (goods subject to Compulsory Specifications).
NRCS
National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications. The body that regulates goods subject to VCs. Separate from the SABS PVoC Programme.
PVoC
Pre-Export Verification of Conformity. A regulatory programme requiring certain goods to be tested and certified in the country of origin before shipment.
SABS
South African Bureau of Standards. The statutory body that administers the PVoC Programme and develops South African National Standards.
SANS
South African National Standards. The technical benchmarks against which PVoC goods are tested.
SARS Customs
South African Revenue Service Customs division. Responsible for the electronic clearance of goods and integrating the CoC requirement.
VC
Compulsory Specification. A mandatory technical regulation enforced by the NRCS.
